A COCKERMOUTH store should not be allowed to extend the hours it can sell alcohol, agreed town councillors.
Aldi, on Low Road, has applied to Allerdale Council to extend the hours between which it sells alcohol from 6am to midnight every day.
Mayor Alan Smith said: "I've spoken to the manager and he said it's a blanket proposal throughout the country. He believes Cockermouth will be 7am to 10pm."
Councillors voiced concerns about people being able to buy alcohol so late at night and agreed to recommend Allerdale refuse the application.
"I have had people contact me concerned about this," said Coun Andy Semple.
"Me too, there are houses round there," said Alan Kennon.
"I say we go against this and go for 7am to 10pm only."
