CONTROVERSIAL proposals to paint double yellow lines downa a  busy but narrow will leaveat least fiveblue badge holders with nowhere to park.

Cumbria County Council is consulting on a traffic review that would see double yellow line restrictions on Ewanrigg Road and Marsh Terrace.

Marsh Terrace forms part of  Main Road Ellenborough, also known as the A594. & Marsh Terrace is the name of one of the rows of houses there, the adjoining one being Robinson Terrace..

It is the residents of Marsh Terrace who are up in arms.

Times and Star: PARKUING: Blue badge holders will have nwhere to park if double yellow lines are painted on Marsh TerracePARKUING: Blue badge holders will have nwhere to park if double yellow lines are painted on Marsh Terrace Two years ago an equally controversial planning decision saw permission for 31 houses to be built on Marsh Terrace, the plans for which meant several residents lost allotmens they had bee d

tending for decades.

There was concern about traffic then but the developers promised to include a car park within the housing development which could be used bythe current residents.

It seems, howver, that the car park is to be buit after the cosntruction of the  houses and resident are still not sure what is invlved  - wjhether residents will have their own reserved spaces, whether they will be free or will they have to be paid for.

The county's proposal would have double yellow lines down only one side of the road, suggesting that residents could park on the other side.

But residents believe that this would have a knock on effect with Marsh Terrace encroaching on Ewanrigg spaces and so on.

Maryport Town Council's planning chairman Angela Kendall said: "This is quite an etensive review with more than Marsh Terrace included. The council will look into it after representations from a member of the public on behalf of the residents.

"I think the real problem in Maryport, however, is that it was never build for the number of cars we now have. It is as if we are trying to turn it into a city."

The consultation also includes much of Ewanrigg Road where double yellow lines will stop "restrictive parking."

The county council said: "This is particularly important in this location, due to the close proximity of the hospital and the bus stop immediately adjacent."

People have until March 21 to comment on the proposals to Cumbria County Council. either by email or leter.
