PLANS have been lodged for a new pump track in Workington, which is approved will provide space for young people to ride, relax and socialise.

A proposal has been submitted to Cumberland Council's planning department by the authority to develop a pump track on the disused piece of land next to the firestation in Moorclose, Workington.

The track will cater for biking, skating, scooters and rollerblades on a site that was once a school rugby pitch, but is now derelict grassland.

A design and access statement said: "A pump track is an off road cycling facility defined as a closed loop with closely spaced rollers and rolling features with tight, bermed corners.

"Pump tracks provide a technical learning facility for the different disciplines and considered a place where riders go to relax, ride themselves but also to watch other riders and socialise.

"The site will be open access, allowing for use from learners and more experienced riders to use as and when they please within the daylight hours."
