PLANS have been submitted for a new start up business in Aspatria, which will provide a 'different market' for the gym scene.

Plans have been lodged for the change of use from vacant commercial unit to a gym and nutrition facility at the Aspatria Business Park in Park Road, Aspatria.

The site is currently a vacant commercial unit and it is understood that the last occupier was Pressure High Ltd car repairs and maintenance.

Internally there would be minimal changes, with the majority of the space remaining open plan, but with the inclusion of a changing room area.

It is proposed that the business will employ two people initially, and the proposed opening hours are 6am to 10pm on weekdays and 9am to 6pm at the weekend.

A planning statement supporting the application said: "The facility to be provided is a new start up business, as they feel that there is space in the leisure and fitness market for the type of gym facility that they will provide. It is aimed at a different market to the other facilities within both the settlement and wider borough and aims to bring more users into the leisure sector and enable additional healthy living and lifestyles.

"The qualifications and experience which the applicant has in this area mean that he can provide a unique experience and service in the local community which is very important to him as health and wellbeing now plays a key part in everyone’s day to day life.

"Alongside his studying to gain the relevant qualifications, he has also got involved within local community groups to share his knowledge and experience to help others.

"In the past he has spent time supporting AGE UK carrying out a four-week, full-time undergraduate placement with AGE UK Dementia Day Centre in Gateshead.

"The placement involved helping elderly people feel comfortable and relaxed in a social environment, while working to meet their emotional, recreational, social, and learning needs, all in accordance with their personal care plan."
