A WORKINGTON home may be turned into a holiday let following an application made to the council.

Plans have been submitted for 31 Park End Road, Workington to be changed from a residential home to a holiday let which is set to target large family groups, or groups of families coming together for a 'staycation'.

The application was submitted to Cumberland Council on June 29, and is now set to move into a consultation stage within the council planning process.

The applicant does not plan any external changes to the property, with the application being for a change of use for the property.

A design and access statement said: "Park End Road is a large detached house in the centre of Workington on the edge of the Portland Square conservation area.

"It comprises seven bedrooms, four of which are double rooms and as such can accommodate over six people, either living permanently in the accommodation or as a single let holiday accommodation."

The plans say that the applicant will market the property through 'reputable' firm Sykes Cottages, in order to vet potential visitors before their stay.

There will also be documents provided once residents arrive to promote tourism throughout the local area.

Documents supporting the application say: "The applicant is targeting this holiday let at large family groups, multi-generational families (grandparents to grandchildren), or groups of families coming together for a staycation.

"Their intention is to use Sykes Cottages, a reputable holiday let company, to market the property and vet suitable customers.

"The applicants will also have a welcome pack that talks about community, what's on in the area and also ensuring they are considerate to neighbours i.e. no noise after 11pm."

The applicants believe that the proposals, if approved, will work to promote tourism in the local area, in accordance with the council's planning policy.

The application cited the planning policy to 'provide an important source of income to the towns and communities of Allerdale in the form of visitor spending on accommodation, food and drink, recreation activities and shopping, and also to the local business supply chain and wholesalers'.

The applicant says that this application therefore meets the criteria.
