A GROUP of residents on a Dearham estate have raised concerns over safety after they say the infrastructure around their homes has been left unfinished.

A group of residents on the 13-home Lonsdale View Estate have been left without working streetlights and uncompleted roads, despite the final home being sold back in 2019.

The residents have hit out at Northfield Developments, which developed the site, as safety fears rise with dark evenings moving closer.

Emma Gill bought her home in November 2018. She said that the initial purchase through Northfield Developments was ‘great’.

She said she was told that when purchasing the property, she was told the roads would be completed to a standard the council could adopt within two years of the final house being sold.

However, four years later, the works have still not been complete, with one raised manhole leaving Emma’s eight-year-old daughter with a broken wrist last year.

Emma said: “It’s a nuisance, especially in winter because it’s pitch black. My mam actually lives on Lonsdale View as well on the other side of the estate, she has fallen I don’t even know how many times, tripping because of the raised kerbs.

“My daughter actually broke her wrist from tripping over one of the raised manholes when she was on a scooter.

"How many other people have actually hurt themselves but just not said anything?

“We just want the road finished like we were promised. We just want a safe road with some street lighting, and I think we would all be happy.”

Adele Lyall purchased her house in 2019, with the property being the last of the houses to be sold. Her partner Lewis Nixon later moved onto the estate with her, with the couple saying they have been left disappointed with the ‘unfinished’ works on the estate.

The couple said: “We know from speaking to our neighbours who have been here for 13 years they could understand that the roads won’t be finished and the lights won’t be put in until the last house is sold and gone... but then that was Adele’s and that was sold four-and-a-half years ago.

"To wait four-and-a-half years after the last one is finished that’s a really long time.

“It’s quite scary when you’re on your own, coming back late at night it’s pitch black. We have a baby daughter, so we have got a pram, you’re having to throw the pram up and down off the curbs.

“You’re always having to bump your car up and down curbs, bump over manhole covers... pavements aren’t finished for the kids to play out so they can’t really use the pavement.

"It just makes the estate looks untidy because it’s not finished, especially for people who might want to sell their house."

John Leece, of Northfield Development Limited who built the estate said: “We are currently working with all partners and relevant agencies to solve the problems and get the road adopted.”
