A WEST Cumbrian holiday village looks set to have a new splash pad, water slides and outdoor pool installed at the site, after planning permission was granted by the council.

In December an application was submitted to Cumberland Council for the 'removal of existing structures and the installation of a children's play park, which includes features such as a splash pad, outdoor pool and water slides, along with other facilities at the park' at the Solway Holiday Village on Skinburness Drive in Silloth.

The application was granted planning permission by officers in the Cumberland council planning department last Tuesday, February 6.

As well as the new water feature the plans would see supporting facilities including a food and beverage unit and changing facilities and other infrastructure to support the new features.

The design proposal includes the building of a Roman fort-style clamber and play area, as well as a sand pit digging activity in a dry play area.

The wet play area has plans for a play ship complete with slides, as well as interactive activities, water tunnels, family slides and spray jets.

An officer's report said: "The proposed children’s play park will have a number of themed facilities that reference the history of Silloth and the wider Solway area (RAF plane, the Romans and Hadrian’s Wall)."

During the planning process a representation was received by officers to say that 'during the summer months when Solway Holiday Village has an increased number of guests, it is noticeable that the water supply and pressure is reduced for nearby residents'.

However, officers said that given that United Utilities have raised no objections to the proposed development, they 'do not consider that the water supply will be adversely affected'.

In September 2022,  Hagans Leisure announced to its customers that it will be selling its site at Silloth The Solway Holiday Village, Meadow View Residential Park and Lido Residential park to Cove UK.

At the time of sale, in a letter seen by the Times & Star, Mr Hagan commended the new owners for the way that they run holiday parks in the UK and around the world, saying that they will be able to take the park to 'the next level' in coming years.
