Solfest, a popular Cumbrian music festival, has been forced to delay its start and cancel today's performances, due to the wet and windy weather.

The Silloth festival, which will feature a wide range of original, tribute bands and DJ's, was scheduled to begin today (August 22), and will run until August 25.

However, due to the adverse weather that hit Cumbria overnight, with more than 140mm of rain in some areas, the festival have confirmed on social media that visitors should not arrive until tomorrow.

They wrote: "Due to last night’s adverse weather, Thursday's performances are cancelled and at this time we cannot let anyone onto the site. After assessing the situation we want to pull all our teams together and work on making the site safer for your arrival on Friday instead.

"We plan to open Friday at 11am and will be updating further this afternoon if this can happen sooner.

"Many of us were up all night ensuring the tents and crew were safe.

"We advise anyone who was planning to set off to stay at home and we will be emailing Thursday ticket holders about refunds or roll over Thursday for 2025 after the 2024 event.

"Anyone who has set off we advise not to come to site but we also have a duty of care so please contact us if you have an issue and we will site you as a duty of care.

"This isn’t the update we wanted to give you but public safety is paramount.

"The storm has passed and the weather is looking to improve over the rest of the weekend and we look forward to welcoming you tomorrow."

A further update inspired some hope that the fields could be accessed this afternoon, after the storm passed.

More to follow.
