Cumbria Police have issued an update on the M6, which was closed after an incident last night.

A road closure on the M6 remains partly in place whilst police continue to respond to a collision involving a pedestrian. 

The south carriageway has now reopened with a lane three closure in place.

The M6 remains closed northbound between J41 at Catterlen Interchange and  J43 at Carlisle.

This will remain closed most of the day, and an update will be issued when reopened. 

Officers were called to the incident at 8:06pm yesterday, Saturday September 14.

National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.

Diversion Routes are in place, with Northbound traffic advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol:

  • Exit the M6 northbound at J41, and take the 4th exit on to the B5303 (signposted A6)
  • At Stoneybeck roundabout, take the A6 northbound
  • Continue straight on through Plumpton and High and Low Hesket

At J42 roundabout traffic is advised to follow the "Hollow Circle symbol"

  •  At J42 roundabout take the third exit onto A6 westbound towards Carlisle
  •  Turn right at London Road/Eastern Way traffic signals onto C1045 Eastern Way
  •  Turn right at Eastern Way/Warwick Road traffic signals onto A69 eastbound

Cumbria Police said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
