A GROUP of cyclists from one West Cumbrian village have ridden out again in the popular Browton 7+ event to raise funds for the village's elderly residents.
Now in its 35th year, the Browton 7+ team came together once more on their fundraising bike ride last Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15.
This year 14 people took part in the ride: Stephen Tyson, Paul Graham, Craig Burns, Jonathan Collister, Dave Wearing, Lee Armstrong, David Sewell, Peter Gorley Snr, Peter Gorley Jnr, Stephen Douglas, Steven Hadley, Jamie Woodcock, Roger Johstone and Chris Lawerence.
Stephen said: "It was a bit wet, it rained both days really... we expected Sunday to be a better day setting off back, but it seemed to be worse as we got back to Broughton!
"The ride itself was enjoyable apart from the weather and one of the original riders, Peter Gorley, returned this year - he done the ride on a tandem with his son. It was a good weekend."
The Browton 7+ was started 35 years ago by a group of seven riders from the village. Organised by the late Malcolm Martin the ride has gone from strength to strength ever since, with Stephen Tyson taking over the reigns of organising the rides.
Stephen said: "I think he (Malcolm) would be quite impressed. Him and Les (Gorley) aren't with us anymore so it's carrying it on for them. 35 years is a long time for something to keep going.
"It just seems to be getting better. We had 14 this year, 12 cycling and two support drivers.
"It's good the lads are continuing the tradition that they started."
Although the final total isn't yet confirmed, the group estimate they have raised between £1,500 and £2,000 for an old folks' trip in the village.
The group have thanked all those that took part in the ride, as well as the many sponsors and Brewery House in Broughton who provided refreshments when the team finished the ride.
