HUNDREDS of people gathered on a Maryport estate earlier this week at an annual lantern parade bringing colour and light to the streets.
The annual lantern parade run by The Centre West Cumbria took place around Ewanrigg, Maryport on Monday, October 28 - with the streets being lit up by the dazzling lanterns created in the days leading up to the event.
The parade route, which was estimated to take around 1.5 hours in total, set off from The Centre, making its way through Thirlmere Road and Victory Crescent before heading back to the Centre, with attendees able to join the parade for as little or as long as they like.
This year the parade was led by the BJamba drumming band, with people from the nearby Dales Carehome also wrapping up and heading outside to join in with the parade.
Allerdale police PCSOs Kerry and Rachel also attended the event, having lanterns made for them by staff at the Centre. They said: "Its great to see such a fantastic turnout and lots of brilliant lanterns. Thank you to the staff from the centre."
In the days running up to the parade, the Centre enjoyed a packed afternoon of creativity, with people of all ages getting stuck in and trying something new to create their lanterns.
The Centre thanked 'all the helpers who have supported the workshops this weekend including Jim from Shipping Brow Gallery and Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for funding support'.
