People in Seaton and Camerton have been left without phones and internet access because of a fault in a BT line.
The fault, affecting landline telephone and broadband services, was reported on Saturday.
Seaton Junior School is among those affected.
Engineers are working to fix an underground cable.
A BT spokesman said the firm expected service to resume on Friday.
It has not been confirmed how many customers are affected by the problem.
The spokesman added: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to those currently without service in the Seaton and Camerton area.
"Engineers are working to repair a faulty underground cable and will restore service as quickly as possible.”
