Labour's Sue Hayman has joined Jeremy Corbyn's new-look shadow cabinet.
The Workington MP - only elected to Parliament last year - has been named as shadow floods and coastal communities minister.
Mrs Hayman was previously a Labour whip.
Her appointment comes as Mr Corbyn finalises his wider top team following his reelection as the party's leader.
Mrs Hayman tweeted: "Really proud to have been asked to join the @LabourDefra team in important role of shadow floods and coastal communities minister."
There were messages of congratulations from Labour Party members across Cumbria.
Carlisle City Council leader Colin Glover tweeted: "Congratulations @SueHayman1 Good to have a Cumbrian MP with all your experience and understanding taking on this important role."
