RESIDENTS who have seen their homes and belongings destroyed by flooding have been warned against rogue traders.
Cumbria County Council's Trading Standards have issued the warning for householders dealing with potential traders and insurance claims who appear out of the blue and without prior appointment.
Two officials from the service will be based at the police office at Millom Network Centre for residents to report issues of flood exploitation.
Manager John Greenbank said: "I would urge people to use caution and don't rush into repair work with traders or deals with claims management firms offering what may seem an easy solution.
"Having your home flooded is devastating enough, without risking being ripped off by unscrupulous people prepared to profit by others' misery."

The service is urging residents to speak to their insurer before engaging with any company offering services, and be weary of companies offering a quick-fix solution.
The community has pulled together since the flash flooding, with many offering free clean-up help.
