SHAUN Lunt could become the second West Cumbrian to be part of a Huddersfield side to win the Challenge Cup.
When the club won the cup in 1953 they were captained by Russell Pepperell, one of the three rugby league brothers born and bred in Seaton.
Pepperell died in Australia in 2003 aged 84.
He was the stand-off playmaker of the Huddersfield set-up which won the League Championship in 1949 and the Challenge Cup in 1953.
Brothers Stan and Albert played with him at Huddersfield but when Workington Town was formed in 1945 the latter returned to play his part at scrum half in Town's own Championship and League successes of 1951 and 1952.
Russell earned 16 Cumberland county caps as well as four for England but perhaps his greatest moment came at Wembley in Coronation year when he both coached and captained Huddersfield to their Challenge Cup triumph over St Helens.
He was at the veteran stage of a distinguished career - aged 35. After hanging up his boots, with 350 Huddersfield first-team appearances and 300 points to his name, he emigrated to Australia where he coached the crack Manly side in the mid-1960s.
One of his team-mates at Huddersfield was Whitehaven man Jeff Bawden, a prolific centre three-quarter scoring machine.
