SMITH Patricia Peacefully at Granville Court Care Home, Station Street, Maryport, where she had been lovingly cared for by Helen Stevens and her team for four years, Patricia Smith, daughter of James and Margaret Brown and sister of the late Maurice Brown, dearly beloved wife of Peter Smith, cherished mother of Catherine and auntie of Carol, Kevan and Craig of Arbroath, Scotland. Pat worked for the Inland Revenue in Edinburgh before moving to London and marrying Peter in 1970. The couple moved to Vienna in 1971, where in 1978 Pat assumed the role of bazaar organiser, an international affair which involved many months' work and raised vital funds for the British Church in Vienna. After returning to the UK Pat worked for the Volunteer Bureau, then the Citizens Advice Bureau, before taking a post as tax officer with a local accountant. Having joined the local Magistracy Pat rapidly rose to become a chairman and for many years trained new magistrates and gave talks on law practices to local groups, participated in mock trials, as well as visiting Sellafield to instruct police there on how to present cases in court. On Saturday mornings Pat would attend sessions with a youth officer helping to reform young offenders. Moreover Pat was a happy and active member of Workington Golf Club, serving both as captain and treasurer. Pat attended St John's Church regularly and was treasurer there for several years. Pat died on Wednesday 16th December after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. The funeral service will be held in St John's Church, Workington, on Monday 4th January 2021 at 1.15pm followed by a committal service at Distington Crematorium.
