One of the most recognisable figures in British politics has paid a campaign visit to Whitehaven.
Lord John Prescott, Labour's deputy prime minister for 10 years, backed his party's Copeland by-election candidate Gillian Troughton during yesterday's visit.
He also took the opportunity to re-visit Whitehaven marina's sea lock gates, having officially declared them open in 1998.
Also standing in the February 23 by-election to replace Labour's Jamie Reed are Trudy Harrison (Conservative), Fiona Mills (Ukip), Rebecca Hanson (Liberal Democrats), Jack Lenox (the Green Party) and independents Michael Guest and Roy Ivinson.
