Rowing crews from one of the most successful Oxford University Colleges, New College Boat Club will be training on Derwentwater this week.
They first took to the water yesterday at Keswick’s own Lakeland Rowing Club, and will stay until Sunday.
New College Boat Club accepted the invitation to use Derwentwater for its pre-season training camps for its 30-plus strong squad.
The crews will be based at the Hawse End Activity Centre on the west shore of the lake.
The squad have also been loaned rowing machines thanks to Keswick School who have a thriving rowing partnership with Lakeland Rowing Club.
A Lakeland Rowing Club spokesman said: "This is a major coup for our club and also a welcome New Year boost for Keswick’s tourism business.
"The sight of NCBC’s eight-man boats racing along our lake will be a tremendous draw, not just for rowing enthusiasts but also for locals and tourists."
Lakeland RC hopes that the sight of NCBC’s boats rowing up and down the lake will inspire new local members including novices as well as those wishing to return to the sport.
The club has seven British Rowing qualified instructors and is currently coaching men and women of all ages.
