A road was closed for more than four days after a sink hole appeared.
The sink hole was discovered in the road between Eaglesfield and Deanscales on Friday.
Cumbria County Council closed the road in both directions for safety after a call from a member of the public.
Work began on Monday to repair the damage and the road reopened this morning.
A council spokesman said: "It appears that a gravel trench carrying water under the road had worn away the foundations over time, causing the sink hole.
"Although on the surface the hole was no more than 300mm square, the void underneath was about three metres deep at its deepest point and covered an area of around nine square metres."
A highways maintenance team working on resurfacing in the Keswick area was temporarily diverted to carry out the repairs.
The hold was filled with nine tonnes of rock and six cubic metres of porous concrete.
Workmen also used 10 tonnes of sub-base and three tonnes of resurfacing material.
