Safety improvements along the A66 between Braithwaite and Portinscale will begin after the bank holiday.
Highways England work to improve footpaths, cycleways, road markings and traffic signs will start next Tuesday and will last for up to four weeks.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place but usually between 9am and 4pm to help reduce inconvenience to road users.
Some preparatory work is taking place this week.
Elsewhere on the A66, a lane of the westbound A66 at Bassenthwaite Lake is due to reopen tomorrow morning, following repairs after the road was damaged in December’s storms.
The eastbound carriageway will remain as a single lane as repairs are taking place to a boundary wall and footpath nearby which were damaged in a recent, unrelated incident.
