A brave West Cumbrian girl enjoyed a special party to celebrate the end of her cancer treatment.
Hollie Hodgson, of Dearham, held a party at Grasslot Welfare Club in Maryport on Saturday to mark the end of her treatment and to say thank you to members of the community who have supported the family over the last two years, since Hollie’s leukaemia diagnosis.
The brave youngster turned four yesterday and the party, which was attended by over 50 guests, was also to celebrate her birthday.
Debbie McGee, Hollie’s grandmother, said: “It was brilliant, the children absolutely loved it.”
Hollie got to ring the end-of-treatment bell at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle last month.
She was diagnosed with the disease a couple of months before her second birthday.
And following Hollie’s shock diagnosis, a fundraising page was set up to help the family pay for a holiday once she was better.
Next year they are looking forward to a holiday in spring and a visit to Lapland later in the year.
Hollie’s mum Kelly said: “Hollie is obsessed with Santa, so we want to take her there. I’m over the moon with people’s support. Our community is tight-knit, I still get messages to ask how Hollie’s doing - they’ve been outstanding.”
At the party, Hollie and her guests enjoyed entertainment from Lee Towers.
Debbie said: “Hollie had a great time, she spent all day dancing. The children’s entertainment was absolutely brilliant and we also had a candy cart. I’d like to thank Lee for the disco and entertainment and Alison and Rodney Smith for providing the love sign and the candy cart.”
Hollie, who has two sisters and a brother, rang the bell in front of her mum, grandmother, dad Colin Hodgson and grandfather Graham Fearon, as well as nurses and doctors.
