Wasdale Mountain Rescue received three call-outs in two days, including assisting with a medical emergency. On August 23 at 1.24pm, the team responded to reports of a lost person in the Great Gable area. A male in his 20s had called 999 to police after he had become separated from his party in poor conditions while attempting to summit Great Gable. The man had reported that he was on difficult wet slippery terrain and was unable to accurately determine his location. Further attempts by the team leader to contact him by phone was not possible. The man was then able to report himself as being safe and uninjured. Mountain rescue waited to see if the weather would clear, which it did and and the man was able to reunite himself with his friends. The incident took until 2.54pm to conclude. Then just a few minutes later at 3.15pm the team responded to a medical emergency on Scafell Pike, which took four hours to assist with. 19 team members were involved, along with North West Ambulance Service. A woman had tripped over whilst descending from the summit of Scafell Pike. Initially the woman was helped by two passing doctors, however, based on the nature of her injuries the team was deployed to further help with her medical care and then remove her from the hill to meet a waiting ambulance at Brackenclose. The third incident was on August 24 at 3.05pm, when the mountain rescue team were requested by North West Ambulance Service to assist in transporting a motorcyclist who had sustained a shoulder injury after coming off his bike. The ambulance could not get up the very steep incline of Hardknott Pass to the casualty site. A member of the public offered to move the casualty in his car with a paramedic in attendance.
