Following the news that the lifting of lockdown restrictions is to be delayed by one more month, readers have voiced their opinion on the concerns of those in the wedding industry.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa at Bassenthwaite has long been a popular venue for couples to marry, but it estimates it could lose up to £7,000 a wedding now that full restrictions will not ease next week as planned.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson did announce that the 30-person cap for wedding ceremonies and receptions will be lifted, but venues would have to set limits based on social distancing requirements.
The hotel’s general manager Simon Steele feels the UK’s vaccine rollout has been a great success, which should allow for restrictions to be lifted.
And now, Times & Star readers have shared their thoughts on the issue.
StewieP posted: “The lifting of restrictions on June 21 was always the earliest possible date depending on how the infection rates went.
“It was never set in stone as an absolute date for all restrictions to end.
“Any individuals or businesses that used June 21 as a definite date for restrictions to end were just plain stupid, especially for things like weddings which are a nightmare to arrange and can be very expensive to alter.”
Workington Lad commented: “Admissions to hospital for Covid are still incredibly small in relation to the amount of confirmed cases. It seems to me like the government has no bottle.
“It’s time to let everyone return to normal.”
Newbs0307 added: “Sounds a bit of bias there, it would be stupid and create utter chaos if everyone were told to go back to normal as planned.
“It is entirely logical to extend to reduce the likelihood of us all having to go into further restrictions again in one to -three months down the line.”
