CROWDS were delighted this week as one of Workington’s best-loved parks came back to life after lockdown.

Hall Park in Workington hosted the Oddsock’s Theatre Company for shows over two nights in the town.

Thursday and Friday saw people from all over the town come out to enjoy a night of theatre and music through the wonderful and whacky Oddsock’s performances.

Workington Town Council received praise from the local community for hosting the theatre performance.

Claire Woowat said: “My son and I were at tonight’s wonderful Oddsocks performance of The Comedy of Errors.”

“We had such a good laugh at their antics.”

“We felt that your team did a great job making this a Covid-safe event.”

Stefan Escreet said: “We attended the Oddsocks show in Hall Park last night.”

“Congratulations to you and WTC on supporting a live cultural event like that.”

The travelling theatre group tours the UK performing Shakespeare to crowds all over the country.

It has visited Workington many times in recent years, but had to cancel last year due to the pandemic forcing the country into lockdown.

The theatre group returned to the town with The Comedy of Errors; one of William Shakespeare’s early plays, set in the Greek city of Ephesus.

The play tells the story of two sets of identical twins who were accidentally separated at birth.

The event was organised by Workington Town Council, with strict guidance having to be put in place due to the current government guidelines.

Although the event was free, tickets has to be acquired online first in order to be admitted to the performances.

Deputy mayor Will Wilkinson said he was honoured to be a part of the event when he attended the Thursday evening performance.

He said: “It was an excellent show. The production used me and centred a lot of the production around me — that was highly amusing.”

It’s the first on what we hope is going to be a very busy social calendar and it allows our events team to get back to doing what they do best and are renowned for.”

“A special thanks must go to the events team and the rotary Club which came in and helped steward the event to make sure that it was under Covid regulations and guidelines.”

The performances were the first big event on the Workington Town Council calender since the pandemic started over a year ago, to what seemed to be the delight of all who attended the plays.
