THEATREGOERS can enjoy a night out when a new play opens next week.

The Theatre Royal in Workington will be staging Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, by Frank McGuiness, from Tuesday to Saturday.

Directed by Alison Shutt, it will be performed by actors Marc Goodwin, James Ridegalgh and Karl Sanderson.

“An Englishman, Irishman and American are held hostage by terrorists in Beirut,” said a spokesman.

“The cramped conditions lead to frustrations and irritations between the men, and their national and personal differences come to light.

“Over time, their conversations and shared humour bring them to understand each other and themselves. It is poignant, thought provoking, often humorous.”

This is the second play performed live at the theatre since restrictions lifted in May.

Seating is automatically socially distanced upon booking online, and a stewarded one-way system makes sure that the audience feels safe.

The theatre is currently unable to open the bar but the audience may bring their own refreshments.
