A WELL-KNOWN married couple from Workington will take over this year as presidents of the town’s Rotary and Inner Wheel societies.

Philip and Celia Tibble, were appointed to their new roles earlier this week.

The couple are no strangers to public service, with Celia a Labour councillor on Cumbria County Council as she has been for many years and Philip a former local Labour Councillor.

The Inner Wheel and Rotary clubs in Workington play a key part in raising funds within the local community as well as tackling issues that may exist in the area or further afield.

Philip Tibble will take over as the President of the Workington Rotary Club, whilst Celia will act as President for the Workington Inner Wheel Club over the forthcoming year.

The couple are delighted to have been appointed as the presidents of the clubs and have aims of raising funds for important causes both within the local community and overseas.

On his appointment Philip said: “I am very proud to be president of Workington Rotary for the coming year .

“The club has been in existence for more than 100 years, during which time it has been involved in many initiatives both locally and internationally which benefit communities , from providing Fire Engines for Kenya , helping with food banks and assisting at local events .

“My main emphasis will be to continue the work the club already does and I hope to look at some initiative in the prevention of violence against women.

“I am lucky the club has a lot of members who have a great track record in community service and will continue with this.”

Celia said: “Workington Inner Wheel has been in existence since 1945 and I am proud to be taking over as its President for the forthcoming year.

“During my year I will be leading members in raising funds for various causes but will specifically focus on using the talents of members, which are many and varied, to raise funds for Menstrual Health and period poverty issues both here and internationally.”

In recent weeks the towns other club The Workington Derwent Rotary Club had appointed a new President in Anthony McGuckin.
