A library service issued a scam warning to members of the public after some library members in the area received emails asking them to renew their membership.
Cumbria Library Service, which is part of Cumbria County Council, said that they had been made aware of some members receiving emails asking for a library membership renewal payment.
They re-iterated that their library membership is free and that they would never ask for payment.
People who receive an email like this have been asked to not click on any links in the email, not to reply to it and to report the email to the council by emailing libraries@cumbria.gov.uk.
On social media, the library service said: "These emails can look very genuine so please do not fall victim to this scam."
