A popular museum has made an announcement about the opening times of its cafe.

The Helena Thompson Museum in Workington announced that it will have to temporarily close its cafe until the new year.

The museum added that it's cafe will return in the new year with some changes to its menu.

A spokesperson from the Helena Thompson Museum said on social media: "Well what can I say, as we come to the last day of opening in the cafe until January can I thank everyone of you who have visited us.

"The opening of the cafe was the best thing we could have done.

"It has brought us some much needed funding, but more than that, it has brought new and old visitors to the museum and its lovely to see everyone."

On why it will be temporarily closing the cafe, the museum added that it has "so many events going on that it just isn't possible to continue."

A spokesperson added: "We have a couple of really busy weeks ahead."
