Official figures show that the number of coronavirus cases for Allerdale has increased by 128 in the last 24 hours.

The figures, from the Office for National Statistics, indicated that a total of 25,254 cases had been confirmed in Allerdale, up from the 25,126 cases reported on Monday.

The rate of infection in Allerdale now sits at 25,814 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the England average of 26,435.

It is estimated that nearly nine in ten have received two doses of the vaccine within Allerdale.

Since January 31, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has changed the way it reports coronavirus cases, meaning if one person tests positive for the virus after 90 days of first infection, two infection episodes are recorded.

No new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in the latest 24 hours in Allerdale, despite the changes to the UKHSA reporting of deaths.

Deaths are also being recorded using the new episode-based case definition in England, meaning a person is included in the total count if they die within 28 days of any positive test, opposed to an initial first ever positive test result.

UKHSA have said that this could lead to an increase in the number of deaths reported.

The figures show that there has been a total of 22,183 deaths recorded across the North West in total.
