Lifeboat volunteers had a very special escort while on exercise this weekend.
The Workington RNLI crew were launching from their Workington harbour base for their weekly training session when a seal popped up to wave them off this morning (Sunday, February 6).
Nicknamed Sammy by the crew, the seal is a regular visitor to the town's harbour.
Sailors often also see porpoises and the occasional dolphin off the coast.
Workington RNLI is unique within the entire charity as it is the only lifeboat launched via a davit system, where it is moved by crane and placed into the water.
