A NEW Headteacher has been appointed to a long-standing Workington school.

Ian Nevitt, has over 25 years of experience in the education system, and is 'delighted' to have been appointed to his new role at St Josephs Catholic High School in the town.

Ian, who has been acting as the interim head at St Joseph's since November 2021 has said the role is a 'great honour and privilege'.

He said: "I have been really impressed with the wonderful students, the extremely dedicated teachers and the support of the governors and our caring parents.

"As Headteacher I am committed to providing the best quality education and care for our students and their families.

"I look forward to carrying on the 90-year legacy of St Joseph’s and developing our school where all children are known and receive an excellent education.

"The last few years have been incredibly challenging in education and particularly for our school community and local community, but we have all, pulled together and shown incredible compassion and love for each other.

"I have been inspired by the family feel of the school and the togetherness. This continues today with the support our community has shown the people of Ukraine.”

Chair of Governors Josephine McCree said, “It has been my privilege to work closely with Ian since he was first appointed --to St Joseph’s in 2018 and I unreservedly welcome his recent appointment as Headteacher of St Joseph's.

"The local community know Ian and trust him. He is often seen ensuring that children arrive at and depart safely to and from school, as well as in town after school ensuring the high standards of behaviour expected from St Joseph’s students."

"He has been part of the St Joseph’s family since 2018. As Headteacher, I know he will bring a clear vision for St Joseph’s and play an influential and supportive role in our Trust.
