COCKERMOUTH’S Kirkgate Theatre will welcome an author who will launch his first novel this weekend.
David Thompson will present his work, Strangelove Place, on Saturday, April 16 at 7pm.
A Carlisle resident for more than 20 years, David is also a singer/songwriter performing under the moniker Cat of Tomorrow.
Strangelove Place is a phantasmagorical tale set in a contemporary London where reality and fantasy, as well as life and death, are states that are less separate or well-defined than we might believe. David Thompson is a sometime filmmaker and screenwriter, as well as an active singer-songwriter, and purveyor of weird fiction.
The story follows Stephen Anthony Floyd, a man who only wants from life is to make music and spend time with his girlfriend Janie and his friends on St Ragnulf’s Place. But things happen and soon Stephen is not sure where he is and what exactly is going on.
Moreover, there are a number of important questions that need to be answered, such as why his next-door neighbour has (literally) exploded; who is the mysterious motorcycle despatch rider who seems to be stalking him and, perhaps most critically, will Janie ever speak to him again?
Doors for the event open at 6pm. Tickets cost £3 and are available on the Theatre’s website.
