Presenting the report, councilor Colin Sharpe, executive member with responsibility for finance and legal, said: "Intended for use by all stakeholders involved in decisions over capital investment activity, the Capital Investment Strategy forms an integral component of the Authority’s strategic and financial planning framework, designed to ensure that the Authority’s capital expenditure and investment plans are affordable and proportionate and that external borrowing and other long-term liabilities are within prudent and sustainable levels."
The Lillyhall Infrastructure project covers detailed planning approval for enabling infrastructure and commercial developments at Lillyhall, Workington.
It is hoped that this development will attract further investment and make it easier for businesses to move to the site. It’s estimated that the development of the site will lead to over 180 new jobs being created, with new business spaces for offices, R&D as well as space for the industrial and warehousing sectors.
The Maryport Future High Streets Initiatives incorporates several projects relating to the regeneration of Maryport Town Centre.
These plans include the redevelopment of the former Carlton Cinema as a community hub, for which a planning application was submitted in recent weeks, and the redevelopment of the Wave to provide a more comprehensive leisure and activities hub.
The projects being taken forward as part of the Workington Town Deal include the Port of Workington, a Clean Energy and Logistics hub, and a Workington Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme, a flexible town centre office space solution for start-up and growing businesses in West Cumbria.
