MONTHS of preparations paid off - with a fantastic long weekend of Jubilee celebrations in Cockermouth.
Lots of town businesses had got everyone in the mood - with colourful red, white and blue window displays.
Beacons were lit, exhibitions held and a concert staged. The busy weekend was rounded off with a fabulous family picnic in Memorial Gardens.
1st Cockermouth Scouts lit a beacon on Slate Fell on Thursday evening. As people gathered on fell tops around the county they were blessed with a spectacular sunset.
Leader Steve Hardy said: "We had Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, parents, grandparents and members of the public.
"It was a really great beacon. We are so grateful to David Errington, of Annfield Farm, for his help in letting us use the land and getting the wood up to the top of Slate Fell."
About hundred people also gathered on Ling Fell, near Embleton, for a beacon lighting arranged by the community.
People enjoyed exhibitions in the Kirkgate Centre and also the United Reformed Church.
The latter was organised by the town's WI and included the stunning Jubilee quilt talented members had created.
The Kirkgate exhibition was organised by the town's heritage group.
Town mayor Andrew Semple said: "The town council had held various Jubilee meetings with other town groups in the run up to the weekend.
"In true Cockermouth style, lots of people wanted to do their bit. It was a real team effort and a great weekend for the whole community.
"The heritage group's exhibition was marvellous and enjoyed by so many people. It focused on the community aspect of jubilees and how people have marked the occasion and got together in the past."
The concert on Friday, in the Kirkgate Centre, was a big success.
"The first half was organised by Cockermouth School's head of Music Martin Ulyatt. He had the kids doing something from just about every decade. It was absolutely marvellous," said Cllr Semple.
Various people played a part in the second half, including the mayor, who did two Beatles' numbers. "I had my arm twisted and sang Yesterday and She Loves You so everyone could sing along."
More than 500 attended the picnic in Memorial Gardens on Sunday afternoon. "There was a lovely atmosphere and it was fantastic to have Cockermouth Mechanics Band there. They were so good," said Cllr Semple.
There was a funfair and children's fancy dress competition, judged by the mayor. "All the children got an icecream so everyone was a winner," he said.
