Customers are invited to share their views on plans for a new location for Cockermouth Post Office.
Proposals are in place to move it down Station Street, to what used to be Firn's Home Hardware.
"Subject to consultation, the former Firn's Home Hardware Store premises, which are currently empty, would undergo a full refurbishment to incorporate a cards, stationery and confectionery store alongside Cockermouth Post Office," said a PO spokesman.
The current postmaster has resigned, and the premises, in Nisa, will no longer be available for Post Office use.
"We have therefore had to identify an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community," said the spokesman.
"A new postmaster has been appointed to operate the Post Office from new premises, where it would continue to operate as one of our main style branches.
"Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term and the relocation of Cockermouth Post Office will enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community."
The proposed opening hours would be Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pm and Saturday 9am - 2.30pm.
Consultation on the proposed move will close on July 5. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 347410.
Submissions can also be made via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk.
