A ceremony has been held to mark the end of a long-standing and much-respected Cockermouth group.
The town's British Legion has represented local links with the armed forces for many decades and was forced to close in 2020 due to a lack of members.
Its standard, which always formed part of the annual remembrance service at the town cenotaph, has now been laid up at All Saints' Church - following an official ceremony involving various legions.
Former branch secretary Margaret Woodhouse-Doig said: "The service was very well attended, with Andrew Semple, mayor of Cockermouth, and other councillors also in attendance.
"The Rev Canon Jane Charman led the service.
"Joan Ingram, a member of All Saints' congregation, talked about the origins of the Royal British Legion and the history of the Cockermouth branch, including an interesting reminder of how much support was given by the Women's Section over the years, with baking to raise funds and visits to many war grave cemeteries."
Tribute was paid to the work of Stephen Coates, the former town councillor who was the lynchpin of the town's British Legion and died in 2020.
"Tribute was also paid to other long-serving branch members, and of course to the poppy sellers, who were out in all weathers," said Mrs Woodhouse Doig.
"Cockermouth Mechanics Band were wonderful, as always."
Rod Eglin, Cumbria Parade Marshall, organised the procession and attendance of standard bearers from other branches, including Workington and Brampton. Ian Fisher, county vice chair was also in attendance.
The Exhortation and Kohema Epitaph were read by Mrs Woodhouse-Doig.
"The Cockermouth Standard will be in All Saints for perpetuity," she said.
"The congregation of All Saints were so helpful in ensuring the laying up of our standard was possible and the service was a fitting tribute to all those from Cockermouth and outlying areas who had served the British Legion over these many years.
"They also arranged for refreshments afterwards, which gave those attending time for a catch up."
