'Delighted' and 'relieved' were the words used by many Cockermouth School students collecting their A Level results on Thursday.
There were lots of smiles as the "overwhelming majority" secured places at their first choice university.
Head teacher Richard King said: "Despite the challenges faced since March 2020, we are delighted that we have seen another very successful year for our Sixth Form students.
"Congratulations go to all of our students who have performed exceptionally well; these results maintain the consistently high level of achievement at Cockermouth School Sixth Form.
"We are delighted that 25 students gained all A*/A grades.
"There were many exceptional performances by our students and particular congratulations go to Emily Hartley and Oliver Heron-Southward who each achieved four A* grades, with 6 students achieving three or more A* grades.
"We are delighted with the successes of all of our students, the overwhelming majority of whom have secured places at their university of choice, on highly competitive apprenticeship programmes and in the armed forces."
Friends Eliot Faries, from Workington, and Toby Francis, from St Bees, both studied the same subjects and are going to the same university to do the same degree!
They studied Biology, Psychology and PE and will study sports journalism at Liverpool John Moores University.
"We have been plotting this for a while," said Eliot.
"I'm thrilled with my results, over the moon," said Toby. "This is probably the hardest thing I have done in my life."
Eve Christian got top marks in Psychology, Health and Social Care and Medical Science. She will be studying nursing at Northumbria University. "It's been tough and also terrifying. It's a great relief," she said.
Lizzie Pawson and her friends were all delighted with their results and are looking forward to the next step.
Lizzie did Chemistry, Maths and Biology and will be studying medicine at Manchester University after a year out.
"It's such a relief. I didn't know what to expect this morning. All my friends have got what they wanted," she said.

Sienna Ponting, who did Art, English Literature and Geography, will be studying Art at Edinburgh University.
Evie Williams, who did English Literature, History and Art, will be studying Business in Creative Industry at the University of York.
Hannah Denwood got into her first choice university - York - to study English and Linguistics, after studying Psychology, Biology and English.

Mum Amanda said: "I'm so proud of her."
Friends James Hutton and Eve Nelson, of Cockermouth School, are both looking forward to going to university. James, who studied Biology, PE and History, will be off to Northumbria to study Sports and Exercise Science.
Eve did Spanish, English and Psychology and will study Sociology at Leeds University.
"It's all been pretty overwhelming. I'm pleased that it's done and we all got through. Everyone seems happy," said Eve.
Mr King said: "We would like to thank the hardworking and dedicated staff who have taught students and supported them through the challenges of the last few years to achieve the results they have received today."
