Carer's decision to give client her own pills 'a misjudgement'
A PROFESSIONAL carer from Whitehaven illegally supplied her own anti-depressant pills to a vulnerable client who later died.
But the “two or three” Fluoxetine pills given to the man by his carer Ruth Brown were not judged to be a major contributory factor in the man’s death in September, 2020, Carlisle Crown Court heard.
Brown, 59, of Bransty Road, Whitehaven, admitted supplying the prescription only medication between September 18, 2020 and September 27 that same year in breach of the Human Medicines Regulations.

A WHITEHAVEN woman whose pet dog savaged a party guest during a row has been given a community order.
Courtney Kirkbride, 25, admitted being the owner of a bull terrier dog called Pablo which attacked the woman while out of control during a gathering at the defendant’s home in Latrigg Road, Whitehaven, last year.
She also admitted three counts of assaulting an emergency worker – namely police officers.

A motorist had drunk three-quarters of a bottle of whisky 19 hours before causing a five-vehicle crash on the A66.
Joseph O’Neil, 67, was driving an Audi A4 on the A66 at Brigham Cross on March 8 at 8.15pm, when he collided with the rear of the vehicle in front.
Workington Magistrates’ Court heard that the collision caused a ‘chain reaction’ of five vehicles crashing, with several of them being written off.

Workington Magistrates’ Court heard Sharpe had then threatened to return to the address with a knife.

A YOUNG man from Carlisle employed as a “child activities leader” was secretly pursuing a depraved sexual interest in children.
Oliver Owen, 25, amassed a collection of more than 6,000 sickening child images, including photos and videos depicting the sexual abuse of toddlers and babies, Carlisle Crown Court heard.
In disturbing online chats with “like-minded” people, he spoke of his desire to sexually abuse – and even rape – children.
'Extraordinary courage 'of shop manager faced by robber
A JUDGE has commented the “extraordinary” courage of a Kendal woman for tackling a robber who claimed he was armed with a knife as he targeted the Spar shop she managed.
Despite being threatened and repeatedly pushed away by 41-year-old James Karl Dean as he tried to steal cash from the Sandylands Road store, Sharon Walker-Clement refused to be beaten.
She even chased after the robber as he fled.

A DRUNK man found clutching a whisky bottle in Carlisle city centre became verbally abusive to police officers who tried to move him on.
But David Ireland, 34, who admitted he had misbehaved after “falling off the wagon”, told magistrates at the city’s Rickergate court: “I’m guilty of this offence but it’s not a sign of my character.”
The defendant, of Huntley Avenue, Penrith, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on August 6 in Botchergate, Carlisle.

A CARLISLE man who took a claw hammer to a local pub has been jailed.
Matthew Neale, 46, had initially denied any wrongdoing, claiming he had a legal excuse for taking the hammer to Woodrow Wilsons in Botchergate but he changed his plea to guilty on the day he was due to face a trial.
The defendant, of East Norfolk Street, Denton Holme, also admitted causing criminal damage to a custody cell at the city’s Durranhill Police HQ.

A SERVING firearms officer with the Ministry of Defence in south Cumbria has admitted downloading more than 160 child abuse images.
A District Judge at Carlisle’s Rickergate court told 24-year-old Andrew Stevenson that he must now have his name added to the Sex Offender Register following his conviction for downloading indecent child images at Ulverston.
