AS Boris Johnson's tenure as Prime Minister comes to an end, we have taken a quick trip down memory lane.
Here are five times the outgoing PM has visited Cumbria, both in office and before his time leading the country.
VISIT TO NORTHERN CENTRE FOR CANCER CARE - FEBRUARY 2022
On February 14, Mr Johnson made a visit to Carlisle’s new £35 million Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
Speaking to the News & Star at the hospital, Mr Johnson spoke in glowing terms about the cancer care being offered at the centre.
At the time, he said: “It’s an amazing facility. I’m here to thank people for they’re doing to help the country – particularly Cumbria, working with Newcastle as well – to help people bounce back from Covid because everybody knows somebody who didn’t get the treatment they needed during the pandemic."

BOTCHERGATE, CARLISLE - 2005
17 years ago, Boris Johnson was a newspaper columnist, unexpectedly stranded in Carlisle after missing his train to London. With time to kill, and an inquisitive nature, the man who today becomes our Prime Minister headed for the bright lights of Botchergate.
The experience made a powerful impression.
“I found myself trapped in downtown Carlisle on a Friday night just before closing time and believe me there are better places to be,” wrote the then 41-year-old Mr Johnson.

HUNDAY MANOR, WORKINGTON - FEBRUARY 2022
WORKINGTON played host to a brief visit from Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this year — with the PM promising that he would return.
Among those welcoming the Prime Minster was Workington MP Mark Jenkinson.
He said: “He should have been up on Tuesday as part of his North West tour, but had to cut the visit short because of the Ukraine situation, but I was glad he was able to ‘swing by’ on his way through.
“He has promised to come back as well so I shall be holding him to that."
