Jail warning after attempted robbery in Carlisle

A JUDGE has warned that an inevitable jail sentence is in store for a west Cumbrian man who tried to rob two people in Carlisle – less than two weeks after he was released from jail for a similar crime.

Barrie Lee, 36, entered guilty pleas to two attempted robbery offences on March 29 last year. It happened shortly after 6pm on Bank Street in Carlisle city centre and the victims were a man and a teenage boy.

Delay in sentencing of man who was violent in Workington

A JUDGE has adjourned sentencing a thug who knocked a man unconscious in Workington before attacking a police officer.

Jordan Roche, 24, who also spat in the face of a medical worker, was due to be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court but the case was delayed because the prison where he is being held failed to hand over his medical records.

Workington man, 75, admits drug dealing charges

A PENSIONER from west Cumbria has admitted two drug dealing offences.

Barrie Bray, 75, from Nook Street, Workington, has pleaded guilty possessing Class B amphetamine with intent to supply; and a second charge of supplying the class C drug diazepam.

He was caught with the amphetamine on June 5, 2020.

He committed the diazepam offence between December 12, 2019, and May 25, 2020, Carlisle Crown Court was told. Judge Nicholas Barker said a background pre-sentence report should be prepared before the pensioner is sentenced.

Man who threatened to bomb Carlisle nightclub wins appeal

A YOUNG man who vowed to bomb a Carlisle club after threatening a bouncer with a broken bottle has won his appeal against an immediate prison sentence imposed for the offending.

Ali Omar Ali’s rowdy behaviour outside the city’s Truth bar, Botchergate, occurred on 19th June this year.

Ali, 21, yelled at a doorman and shouted anti-English racial abuse. “He then snatched a broken bottle from the street and threatened the doorman with it, saying ‘I’m going to kill you’, barrister Brendan Burke told Carlisle Crown Court. “A threat the doorman believed to be genuine.

Workington man drove dangerously while over the limit

AN INTERIM driving ban has been imposed on a Workington man after he admitted driving dangerously and while over the alcohol limit.

Adrian Graham, 38, of Corporation Road, committed the offences on March 2 as he drove a Land Rover Discovery in Maryport at Ellenborough Road and Collins Terrace, Carlisle Crown Court was told.

At the time, according to court records, he had 96mcg of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit for driving is 35mcg.
