WORKINGTON'S Armed Forces Day has raised more than £4000 for charities within the area.
After Armed Forces Day the commitee have an informal night to thank everyone who supported the group on Armed Forces Day
The commitee thanks to, Workington Town council events team, Rotary Clubs of Workington, Sgt Ross Murphy, Very Rev Dr Frances Ward, Sharon Hay, Workington Town Band, Tyne Side Pipe Band, All The Entertainers, Craig our master of ceremonies, Firpress and all who donated raffle prizes.
After paying all accounts, the group are donating £3000 to the Workington Poppy Appeal,£300 to each of the cadets corps and £900 to the Workington Royal British Legion Women's section for a new standard.
Organiser Lesley Jackson said: "The parade was fantastic with members of the veterans associations, the cadets corps, town and allerdale mayors and councilors MP , Royal British Legion Members Not forgetting everyone who turned up to support our special day of friendship, fun its great to meet old friends while also making new ones.
"Every year it costs alot of money to put on this day for everyone to enjoy, we are fundraising all year round to support this with various events including raffles, monthly quiz night, Christmas Markets/fetes, charity nights with the Jersey Boys tribute band on the 9th September, The Aim (motown ) 8th October and Roxy Tart 16th December all tickets are on sale now available from the club.
"We thank everyone for their support and hope they continue to this year as we go into our 15th year of Armed Forces Day."
