A new bingo and entertainment centre is going to open in Cockermouth town centre.
The town's chamber of trade chairman welcomed the news.
"This is something new which we have not got in town. I wish them the very best," said Andrew Marshall.
"The more variety we have the better and it's always good to see buildings being used.
"We have very few empty shops, while many other towns are struggling."
The owners of the the Bingo and Entertainment Centre will be holding an open day at their new venue, formerly known as the Conservative Club, on Sunday.
Mr Marshall, who owns Strolling4Shoes, is looking forward to Taste Cumbria this weekend - after a busy summer.
Thirty five percent of his shop's customers have come from outside the county - Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
"We have had a very good summer. People are coming here for the weekend or a day trip. Cockermouth has become a destination place," said Mr Marshall.
Many business owners have been painting and decorating their premises, he said. "It's great to see the town looking so good."
