LYNNE Younghusband has celebrated 10 years in her own business by raising more than £1,000 for charity.

But the raffle that raised £1,250 for children's hospice, Jigsaw, is just one of the charities that Lynne has supported.

The Aspatria woman, who runs Fantasia Beauty in Maryport, has been a beautician for 22 years and has owned her own business for 10.

From the beginning, she has thought about how to help others.

She held a festive night for customers during Christmas in her first year and managed to raise some money and just continued doing it.

Over the years many charities and local organisations have benefited - and often the charity depends on inspiration from her customers.

The Jigsaw donation, for instance, came when a client spoke of the help the charity had given her son.

"I knew very little about Jigsaw but when I heard this woman's story I wanted to do something so I organised a 10th-anniversary raffle and was delighted with the result," she said.

Over the years Lynne has raised more than £7,000 for local charities or services used by local communities.

Last year she raised £900 by cutting 14 inches off her hair for the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for sick children.

Other charities that have benefitted included the Maryport Sea Cadets and Scouts, the Eden Hospice, and Great North Air Ambulance.

Last year she enjoyed walking on the fells which led to her decision to split the £870 raised from her annual festive day between Cockermouth and Langdale/Ambleside Mountain Rescue teams.

It is not only the charities that benefit from the festive nights. Customers get 10 per cent off all goods as well as enjoying drinks and nibbles.

Lynne is also a previous winner of the Maryporters' Christmas window competition, which was set up as one way to brighten up the town.

She said the 10 years in business have flown by.

"When I started I was juggling business and a young family. Now I am a grandmother!"
