A Workington school which is more than 90 years old has invested over £600,000 into the school site as a project to modernise facilities.
St Josephs Catholic High School has invested key projects in its Strategic Building Investment Programme which invested over £600,000 in the site over the last two years including a Creative Hub, Performing Arts Centre and Computer Lab.
The school's head teacher has said that all at the school are excited to see the new facilities which he believes will be 'wonderful' for the students.
"These modernised facilities for our school community help us to provide a varied curriculum in vibrant and contemporary learning spaces," the school said.
"Late last month, the school agreed the final plans for Phase Two of our improvement project focusing on our main entrance, reception and front yard.
"The work is expected to be completed this autumn after we finished Phase One over the summer."
The school listed the additions as follows:
Creative Hub: Completed during Covid. A beautiful, light, modern multi-functional space with state of the art computers for photography and digital art along with a workspace area for art.
Performing Arts Centre: Completed during Winter 2021/22 and provided a refurbished, bright flexible space for dance, music and drama including dedicated individual and small group practice rooms along with changing rooms.
Computer Lab: Again completed during Winter 2021/22. A fully refurbished dedicated and engaging classroom with high specification student computers
Main Entrance: This current project has included a new visitor entrance, a refreshed outside space for students along with a new entrance for our Performing Arts Centre.
"The school have also recently invested in brand new stage lighting for our hall which enabled us to put on a professional and highly successful summer production of Matilda."
Ian Nevitt, headteacher, said: “Although our school is over 90 years old, we continually invest in our site to ensure we provide a safe, modern and welcoming environment for our students and staff.
"It has been wonderful to see our students, along with Year 5 and 6 pupils from our partner primaries enjoying using the new facilities we are providing."
