A WEEKEND of spectacular fun was had as councils across Allerdale 'lit up the night' to mark Bonfire night in the borough.
Workington Town Council and Cockermouth Town Council both organised fantastic events that had crowds raving about their success.
Thousands turned out to both events and were wildly entertained by catherine wheels, rockets and even an added attraction of a circus act in Workington.
The Workington Town Council event held at Derwent Park, Workington on Sunday November, 6 was attended by five thousand people- despite the wet weather.
Workington Town Council clerk, Catherine Gourley said: "Workington Town Council hosted an extraordinary evening on Sunday at Derwent Park RLFC. ‘Light up the Night’ attracted local people and families to enjoy the annual fireworks display with an added attraction of the Matrix Circus.
"5,000 people braved the wind and rain to attend, even a massive downpour half way through the evening didn’t discourage the hardy souls that stayed until the very end.

"This is a wonderful evening and the positive feedback from the night makes all of the effort that goes into this event more than worth it. Workington Town Council would like to extend warm appreciation to all those who volunteered including the Rotary Club, local students, members of the RLFC and our councillors.
"I would personally like to thank the Events Team from WTC who always go the extra mile to make our events so special, fantastic Emma and Andrew."
Thousands also turned out to the Cockermouth Town Council event held in the town's Memorial Gardens, also on Sunday, November 6.
Crowds enjoyed a stellar display of fireworks, as well as a small funfair and array of food stalls.
At the event, Cockermouth resident Molly Coldham said: "Despite the heavens opening, it's been an absolutely fantastic night and great display.
"Me and my friends have had a brilliant time watching the fireworks and judging by everyone elses faces they have too."
