AFTER a long day of learning and fundraising some pupils get away from it all with their noses in a good book.
Ewanrigg Primary School in Maryport has converted an old cabin on its property into an outside library where the only rule is that children are in there reading for enjoyment.
The 'Reading for Pleasure' room was set up with the help of the Library Service.
All pupils have to do is enter, choose a book, take a seat and start reading.
School administrator Julie Moir said the scheme has been an instant success and is encouraging children to read more each day.
When they are not reading, or studying, some pupils have been riasing money for Hospice at Home.
When the school organised a fundraising afternoon for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, pupils threw themselves into the effort by baking their own cakes for sale.
Parents, grandparents and carers joined in, baking and buying and contributing whatever they could.
Families and the community were invited to join the school to buy some cakes, have a cuppa and enjoy some company for the afternoon.
A total of nearly £460 was raised.
