For those who don’t know, Workington and Districts Amateur Musical Society’s pantomime begins its annual Christmas run this week, and this year’s Sleeping Beauty is not one to be missed!
Masses of festive friends and family gathered to watch this charming, funny and chaotically Cumbrian rendition of the tale that included everything you could want from a panto and beyond (oh yes it did!).
Abbie Johnsen guided the show as the magical Fairy Nuff, supported by a rainbow other classic comedy characters such as Chester the Jester (Shirley Mclean) and thigh slapping Prince Frederick (Emily Hougton).
Layla Nicol shone as the lead Princess Beauty, her fantastic vocals were definitely not to be slept on. Eric Finlay provided comedy gold as Queen Caroline, ruffling the feathers of a few willing victims on the front row.
Special mention also goes to the maniacal performance of Sarah Deans as bad Fairy Carabosse, with her rendition of “I Put a Spell on You” causing jaw drops for the grown ups and screams from multiple children.
She was supported excellently by her henchman Lurgy (Jack Pike) as the pair provided ample opportunity for a loud booing!
The ensemble were fantastic, effortlessly providing bright vocals and colourful choreography. The whole team should be proud of yet another fantastic Christmas success.
If you haven’t got tickets yet - its a crying Dame!
Show runs until December 30 in the Carnegie Theatre, Workington. Tickets available online.
