A WELL-KNOWN and historic Workington theatre has appointed a new general manager.
The Carnegie Theatre in Workington has started the year by welcoming new general manager Cheryl Hewetson, who will take charge of the day-to-day operations of the building.
The appointment is part of the Carnegie’s strategy to increase its offering to the town and surrounding area as an entertainment venue, café and community centre.
Hewetson, who was previously a customer care leader at Barclays Bank and has a background in musical theatre, said she is excited to jump into her new position.
Cheryl said: “Taking charge of such a vibrant venue is incredibly exciting.
“The Carnegie is an important part of Workington’s history and the current community and it’s an honour to be part of the team here.”

The theatre was built in 1903, originally as a public library and lecture hall. It has since seen a number of different uses and was taken over from the council by the Carnegie Theatre Trust (Workington) in 2015.
It is now run as a charity, hosting a large selection of entertainment events and providing a number of community services such as a weekly Warmth Hub.
Cheryl said: “There’s a lot of exciting things in the pipeline for 2023, and I can’t wait to welcome more people through the doors over the coming year and beyond.”
