POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal car crash on the A66 between the Bridgefoot roundabout and Stainburn roundabout, near Workington.

Officers are appealing for witnesses who were driving on Ramsey Brow and Stainburn Road, leading to Workington Academy.

Several vehicles were driving towards the roundabout behind a lorry between 5.45pm and 5.53pm, police said.

Officers would like to speak to any drivers travelling in that area who saw the vehicles involved prior to the collision, and are appealing for anyone who has relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.

The collision was reported at 5.53pm on Monday, February 13 and involved a blue Renault Clio and a red Volkswagen Golf.

Two people in the Clio, Patricia and Gareth Evans, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Golf, a man, remains in a critical condition in Newcastle.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.
