A MAN was taken to hospital after he passed out on a bus with a large quantity of drugs in his possession.

An ambulance was called to Workington Bus Station on March 1 after a bus driver reported an unconscious male on the bus, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said a “large amount” of drugs were found on Kieran Winder, 30.

Ambulance staff took him to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and informed staff of what was found in his possession. The drugs were given to police.

Winder was interviewed and denied possession with intent to supply but admitted possession of controlled substances.

He said some of the drugs were given to him by his friends. He said he takes drugs but doesn’t deal in them. He hadn’t slept in three days and had “been everywhere”.

Winder, of Hunday Court, Workington, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a Class A drug – cocaine, and two charges of possessing a Class C drug – Pregablin and Zopiclone.

Mike Woolaghan, defending, said it was a “relatively small” amount of cocaine.

Mr Woolaghan said: “He has been struggling with his health. He has anxiety and depression. He is back living with his parents.”

Winder was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
